Harrow Sweet Pear

(Pyrus communis)

harrow sweet pear, harrow sweet, canadian pearsA cross between  Bartlett and Purdue pear varieties, the Harrow Sweet pear was developed by the Agriculture Canada Research Station at Harrow, Ontario and lives up to its name.  The juicy flesh is sweet and the skin has a beautiful red blush.

Maturing late season, this hardy, productive crop is extremely resistant to fire blight and produces medium-to-large sized fruit, similar to that of Bartletts.  Because the trees are pollen-compatible with Bartletts you can plant one of each.

Try them fresh or as part of this recipe for Fresh Winter Pear and Apple Chutney!
