Food Day Canada Kickoff Dinners and Tribute to Founder hosted by the Elora Mill

Elora, ON ~ Food Day Canada is a national event for all Canadians to join hands in one massive celebration in praise of our food and all the good people who make it happen from farms to our forks. We can all shine a light on Canadian cuisine with Food Day Canada to be held July 30, 2022. To launch this year’s Food Day Canada, The Elora Mill Culinary Team and chefs in Elora came together with her family to create an amazing tribute to Anita Stewart featuring some of Anita’s favourite local chefs and recipes.

Food Day Canada was founded by the late Anita Stewart, C.M., in 2003 as a show of support for Canadian farmers. Since then, it has grown and evolved into a national celebration for Canadians to share their food and their stories with each other while leading other nations in cultural diversity, food ethics, magnificent flavours  and fun! As a tribute to Anita’s legacy, Food Day Canada continues to actively promote our distinctly unique food culture with celebrations in person and online from coast to coast to coast encouraging everyone to shop, cook, and dine Canadian.

Jocelyn Maurice, Managing Partner of Elora Mill and Pearle Hospitality shared, “It has been a pleasure to be a part of the planning of this exciting dinner series for Food Day Canada and Anita Stewart. Anita’s time in Elora had an immense impact on the caliber of food and chefs in our area – she has been an inspiration for all of us. She challenged us all to make the right decisions for seasonality, flavour, our farmers, and our food system.  There seemed to be no better way to celebrate than to bring everyone together in this large collaboration in her honour to host four dinner parties we know she would have loved.”

The dinner series and Food Day Canada kickoff will be hosted each night from July 25-July 28, 2022 at the Elora Mill in Anita Stewart’s hometown of Elora, Ontario. With amazing local culinary talent, the nightly changing guest chefs are: Monday, July 25th The Evelyn with Chef Dean Kamminga; Tuesday, July 26th The Handsome Devil with Chef Sean Mills; Wednesday, July 27th Elora Brewing Company with Chef Ryan Goodfellow; and Thursday, July 28th The Friendly Society with Chef Brandon Taylor.

Maclean Hann, from the Elora BIA and owner of the Evelyn Restaurant shared, “Anita was a champion of ‘farm to fork’ eating long before it became fashionable and did so much to put local Canadian cuisine on the map, especially here in Elora. Whether shining a spotlight on local growers and producers or helping aspiring restaurateurs get off the ground, she was a passionate advocate for Elora’s culinary scene. Virtually every restaurant in town benefitted from Anita’s guidance at one point or another, so to have some of her favourite chefs and restaurants coming together for this dinner series in celebration of local food is a wonderful tribute to her legacy.”
