The culinary cousin to RauDZ Regional Table, micro bar • bites in downtown Kelowna is an expansive 900 square feet of bar and small bites. Chef Butters jokes that the space is so small that “we don’t even capitalize the ‘m’ of micro!” No fancy stemware here. The creatively simple approach continues with a pared down bar and food menu, and the launch of barrel-aged hi-balls, with international beers and wines all offering guests a fresh experience. The simple small bites menu changes monthly.
The compact space is designed around the unique bar built by Okanagan wood craftsman Will Brundula. Constructed from three species of reclaimed wood, the end cuts are put together like a jig-saw puzzle to create a one-of-a-kind surface that anchors the space. Will also constructed the trestle community table, front door and bar top at RauDZ Regional Table. Over the bar is suspended a 20-foot wooden chandelier complete with dozens of antiqued-style caged lights.
Surrounding this 65′ of bar is a grey stone wall that looks like it’s been part of the space forever and Italian-style plaster walls applied in a hundreds year-old four-stage technique. Soaring ceilings, Italian plaster and stone give micro a European feeling but Chef Butters ensures the casual attitude of the Okanagan remains.
For 2020, the chefs have decided to run local specials for Food Day Canada.
